British-born American writer, best known for pulp fiction. Cave's work was published in such pulps as Astounding, Black Mask, and Weird Tales. Cave published approximately 800 short stories in nearly 100 periodicals using various pseudonyms.

In 1978, Cave won a World Fantasy Award, for Best Collection/Anthology, with Murgenstrumm and Others, a collection of pulp stories published by Carcosa. In 1990, Cave won the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Horror Writers Association.
